Upcoming Competition Changes
Dear Club Members
Further to feedback received from members, the Committee has discussed the future of “themed” competition nights and the “competition classes” in general, with the aim that moving forward this help clear up any confusion around the both events.
Challenge
When a competition is titled “Challenge” it means that it will be held as a separate competition alongside the main competition. Members will be free to enter the challenge, the main competition, or both, as they wish.
Themed
When a “Themed” night is held, the theme will apply to the whole competition and only models that comply with the spirit of the theme may be entered into the competition on that night. Members will be given plenty of notice when a “Themed” night is scheduled.
Upcoming “Challenge” & “Themed” Nights
June 17th - Napoleonic “Challenge”
The Napoleonic competition is a “Challenge”, which means the main competition will still be held on the night but with a separate area for Napoleonic themed entries.
September 16th – Battle of Britain “Theme”
Battle of Britain, this will be a “Themed” night, therefore all models entered must comply with the spirit of the theme.
This means that all aircraft, vehicles, boats/ships (military or civilian), figures, buildings etc. must be modelled as they would have appeared during or around the period of 10th July - 31st October 1940.
December 16th – Red “Theme”
This will be a “Themed” night; therefore all models entered will need to feature the colour red on 50% or more of the model. As this is the last meeting before Christmas, festive-themed builds will be most welcome.
We hope that this clarifies the situation regarding “Challenge” and “Theme" nights and that member’s will support these events with understanding should the Competition Secretary remove a model that does not conform to the spirit of the theme or challenge. Any model so removed may of course be re-entered in the next normal competition night (usually the following meeting).
Changes to Competition Classes
Throughout the year the Committee has been taking note of feedback received from members on how to improve the highly competitive competition amongst the aircraft classes. After a discussion and review, the Committee believe there is merit in making an adjustment but as April is our last meeting before the May Finals, it has been decided to maintain the existing classes until after this event.
However, from June 2025, the aircraft classes will be sub divided into 4 classes as detailed below:
• Class A1: Aircraft 1/73 and smaller. (No change)
• Class A2: Aircraft 1/72 to 1/49. (No change)
• Class B1: Aircraft 1/48 to 1/33
• Class B2: Aircraft 1/32 and Larger
The Committee hopes that members will appreciate these changes and enjoy the closer competition that this improvement will generate.
Regards
Mark Bellamy
Competition Secretary
